Tsar decides to go picnic (without telling the petitioners) instead of receiving a petition by loyalists to him expressing their hope that he would be their protector as was traditional, and that he only did not know about their struggles. They sang “God Save The Tsar” as they marched and vehemently opposed any socialist or revolutionary involvement in the protest.

The imperial guard ordered them to disperse, and when the petitioners did not disperse, fired on them, which would decisively and nationally shatter the traditional deep-rooted loyalty to the imperial family in the Russian working classes. 12 years later, the Tsar would be overthrown by a socialist revolution which did not present petitions and did not sing “God Save The Tsar”.
