The contract comes as Ukraine is scaling its use of unmanned ground systems at a pace that would have seemed ambitious even a year ago. Ukrainian officials recently announced plans to procure 25,000 new ground robots in the first half of 2026 alone, as part of a broader effort to transition frontline logistics fully to unmanned systems. ARX Robotics, with hundreds of vehicles already in operation or contracted for delivery, is the primary Western supplier feeding that demand. The latest award adds several hundred GEREON vehicles to an already substantial deployed fleet, pushing the company’s total operational footprint in Ukraine to five times what it was when it first began supplying the country.

Looks cool, also really interesting what kind of communications they are using.

It is very cool stuff, the two coolest parts to me are the wounded evacuation capabilities and the ability to move ammunition and explosives the last ~30km to fighting positions so that somebody isn’t given the brutally inhumane job of driving a truck or lightly armored vehicle full of ammunition anywhere near the frontline.

This holds true for Ukraine’s Bohdana mobile self propelled howitzers as well, ammunition can be be dispersed ahead of time to temporary firing positions with less shells kept on the vehicles while they reposition to increase the survivability of the crew if and when they are attacked by UAVs while moving. This synergy benefits Ukraine far more than russia as Ukraine is pumping 155mm howizters out, they produce something like ~40 a month. Russia by comparison cannont even protect most of its traditional artillery and instead uses it in a procedural and disposable “one time use” fashion where it isn’t assumed any particular asset or gun crew survives for long.

I think about Urainian drones blowing up a series of attempted russian resupplies of ammunition to encircled troops with UGVs that leave the russians depleted from the physical capacity to fight even after repeated attempts to break free from that logistics chokehold. Eventually the encircled russians simply do not have the bullets or bombs to fightback and must surrender to UGVs being shadowed in the general area by Ukrainian infantry.

That is a battle that can be resolved without Ukrainian soldiers putting their bodies directly in harms way (*not that losses don’t happen, war is war*), and it discentivizes russian commanders from forcing the lowest russian soldier on the pecking order who was probably tricked into frontline service to drive the truck full of mortar rounds to the front because UGVs are more effective anyways. It also makes it difficult for russians trying to make a stupid pointless last stand to find a single point to go out guns blazing in some sad attempt at glory or escape since eventually they just end up in a hole with no ammo, food or water and they become simply a dangerous emergency medical case to take in for Ukraine in a slow careful manner.
